Ahoy there! and Goodbye!

The pirate hat is finished, me hearties:

Pattern: We Call Them Pirates by Hello Yarn
Yarn: Bergere de France Berlaine, 1 x 50g skein in Ebonite, 1 x 50g skein in Albatre
Modifications: I didn’t do the lining. I am lazy.

For a first attempt at stranded knitting, this is possibly the perfect pattern. It’s knit in the round, so you can see what you’re doing at all times and only two colours throughout. I am skipping around with happiness at how easy it was. I should really have tried colourwork before now, but I was scared. And for no good reason. So shame on me!

Gratuitous shot of the inside:

Berlaine is lovely yarn to work with. I wish it came in an aran weight because I’d be snapping it up for wintery sweaters. It feels a bit rough when unwashed, but afterwards it’s delicious.

Thank you for all your comments on the North Sea Shawl. I think the general consensus was that the colour is beautiful (yes it is) but the pattern is maybe not so much. I had decided to carry on anyway, because I was making good progress and then last night, I went wrong (wrong? on a pattern that I could memorise in five seconds?!), tinked, lost a stitch, swore and frogged the whole thing (nearly 8 pattern repeats).

But I immediately cast on again. For this:

The pattern is Fiber Trends’ Leaf Lace Shawl pattern, by Evelyn A Clark. It’s very similar to her Flower Basket Shawl, and both are the the same neck downwards construction as Kiri, but it’s a style I enjoy knitting and I’ve already worked through the first chart:

Is it a keeper?!
