My needle bending incident yesterday was partly due to me taking arty photos in an attempt to persuade myself that the sock I was knitting was worth continuing. It wasn’t a hard pattern, but I couldn’t memorise it and it was bothering me knowing that I was two thirds through the first sock and already dreading knitting the next one. I want to be able to pick a sock up at odd moments, glance at the sock and know which pattern row I’m on. Considering that I’m planning to knit a Princess Shawl which I doubt is going to be at all suitable for picking up at odd moments, this might seem a contradiction. But with a shawl - especially that one! - I’m not knitting it as a quick and portable project. A sock, on the other hand, is for knitting on the bus or tram (if I can get a seat!) as well as in odd snatched moments when I’m not trying to launch a website, and therefore I can’t be doing with balancing charts and crossing off rows.

Reader, I frogged it. :-P And not only was it frogged but I changed yarns completely. As no photos of exist of the sock that never was, this is fairly redundant information but bear with me. :-)

Wavy rib lace sock cuff

New sock! The pattern is from a stitch dictionary and I’m pretty sure it must have been used for a sock patterns before I found it. If I can find a pattern I’ll link to it, else I may just write it up. It’s a very simple lace rib. No cabling involved; the wavy stitches are all done with cleverly placed yarn overs and knitting togethers.

I think in the blue-green colour and the ripples look like waves on the sea. Not a sparkling blue ocean, but a wintery sea at a British seaside resort. A few years ago it was a notable birthday for me (yes, I was 21 :-P ) so Mr B took me to Brighton for the weekend as a treat. My birthday is in February. It snowed. But the socks remind me of the sea as seen from my hotel room window. This is A Good Thing. :-D

The yarn is Dream in Color Smooshy, which is the best name for a yarn ever.

This progress is the result of an evening’s knitting; it took me three days to do as much with the other pattern. These socks are for keeps.

That colourway is fantastic, the pattern is gorgeous too. I really need some good solids in my stash :)

Ooooh! Looks great. I love that yarn colour. *ogles* Teal!

As for the pattern you may or may not have seen before, could it possibly have been the River Rapids socks?

Love that colourway and pattern. I always keep a simple stoking stitch something on the go so I can sit and relax and not think about it. I know what you mean by the socks. I’ve done one of a lace pattern and started the next , but got bored, so I’ve put it away for a few days.

I like them (still sorry to hear about the loss of a needle) so glad that it turned out better the second time. Proof that if it doesn’t flow, it’s probably not worth knitting!

Very nice! Much better to have a pattern you’re happy with and can just do.

And I’m with Kay, it looks like a variation on the stitch pattern in River Rapids. Maybe not quite the same? I like yours better than my River Rapids. :-) But I love the colour you’ve chosen, so maybe that’s it!
