Hareton updated

I found a tiny error in the instructions for the foot length. It should measure 24cm or 9½ inches before the toe shaping starts. 24cm is not 8 inches as I put previously. ;-) The pattern is updated now.

My Year Of Lace

Last year’s sock yarn stash reduction was very successful. But it meant that some other stashes got neglected. Or not neglected as such, but added to and not exactly reduced… :-P

Laceweight yarn stash

Laceweight yarn stash continued...

This is the current, rather embarrassing state of my laceweight yarn stash. Though some of the yarns are more 4ply, but I bought them intending to use them for lace, so it counts. And I didn’t buy it all myself. But I also can’t resist a bargain which is the reason for the cones of silk and cashmere…

So I decided that 2008 will be My Year Of Lace. I’ve even joined the Year of Lace Ravelry group. I won’t be doing the knitalong, but it’ll help serve as a reminder that I should be focussing away from the feet this year!

I’ve started a list of shawls that I’d like to knit with my stash:

Peacock Feathers Shawl from Fiddlesticks Knitting

…Frost Flowers from A Gathering of Lace

…Ene’s Scarf from Scarf Style

Princess Shawl

…and of course the Princess Shawl. Though I’ll need to *gasp* buy more yarn to knit it as (a) I don’t have enough in any one colour and (b) anyway, I want to knit it in white. I guess it won’t be a finished in 2008 project, but it would feel like an achievement if I at least cast on for it!

Firstly, I have the Dolphin Lace Scarf from Victorian Lace Today to complete. I haven’t picked it up since the summer, so it still looks like this:

Dolphin Scarf WIP

Here’s to a year full of yarn overs and k2tog. :-D

Little Miss Organised

I am not the world’s most organised person. Though I usually know where I can find something, even if it’s in the most bizarre place, it’s not much help for anyone else, because they don’t have a direct link to my brain. So I’ve decided that part of my New Year Resolution is to try to become more organised and systematic in every part of my life, including my knitting. At the end of last year, I was behind on my podcasts, hadn’t read my blogroll for weeks and had photos stored all over the place. So these three things are the first to be sorted.

Knitting and listening to people talking about knitting

Mr B gave me the BEST present for Christmas. Though it doesn’t look knitting related, my iPod is the perfect knitting gift. I did have an MP3 player but I couldn’t use iTunes and subscribe to knitting podcasts and so I just kept forgetting to check for new episodes. Now it updates every time I connect the iPod to my PC, so no excuse for not having new episodes. Note the semi-secret knitting in the background. All will be revealed in a month or so… ;-)

Secondly, I’ve been very bad at keeping up with my blog reading of late, and it’s all Ravelry’s fault. Though not because it’s been eating all my time, for once. But because Ravelry is best viewed with Firefox, I’ve taken to using it as my regular browser. It’s nicer to use than Internet Explorer, plus it can be customised. I have cats on mine. :-D Anyway, way back in the dark ages before Ravelry, I had a list of blog feeds in Internet Explorer. Because I don’t use it anymore, I’m not checking my feeds. So I’ve joined Bloglines, stuck a quick link in my bookmarks toolbar next to my Ravelry link and hopefully that will encourage me to be a better blog reader and commenter. :-)

Thirdly, despite saying that I would never pay for Flickr… I’m paying for Flickr. *blushes* I have my FO photos all over the place at the moment, and I want to get them all in one place and Flickr is really the best solution. So I’m slowly working through the blog and my Photobucket account and some really old forgotten projects might suddenly appear on my FO page and on Ravelry. Only this morning, I found the one photo I took of my first lace project (Branching Out) back in 2005, so that is now on there. Sadly, I can’t seem to find any photos of my first cable project, Trellis, which is making me a bit gloomy.

There’s one more big resolution that I have made, but it deserves its own post a bit later today. It’ll involve some shameful photographs. :-(
