Pattern:Heelless Sleeping Socks from Knitting Vintage Socks
Yarn: Artesano Alpaca Hummingbird, Flamingo colourway, two-thirds of a skein
Needles: 3.25mm Addi Bamboo dpns
Modifications: A few.
My secret knitting is over and I can celebrate by knitting something very un-secret! These socks were amazingly quick to knit. Obviously it helps with having no heel flap to interrupt the flow. It’s just knit, knit, knit and then it’s long enough and time for the toe shaping.
I used the pattern in the book pretty much as a heelless sock template and didn’t follow many of the directions other than the number of stitches cast on and the length. I used larger needles and thicker yarn and ignored the stitch pattern, which got lost in the varigation of the yarn. I also adjusted the rate of decrease for the toe shaping so that I didn’t end up with a very long point!
The yarn is possibly my new favourite alpaca yarn. Almost. It’s softer than Inca Cloud, which is a huge positive, but it only comes in varigated colourways. You might be able to see from the photo below that it stripes beautifully except for a purple blobby line running diagonally along the sock which is a shame.
If it came in solid colourways, though, I’d be the happiest bunny in the world.

They are wonderfully snug and once blocked will be sent off to my grandma to warm her toes.
