No peeking, Diane! :-P

Not all of my recent knitting has been unbloggable. I finally made a start on the Cobweb Lace Stole. Now, I confess it was a little disconcerting to see that there is not a single finished one on Ravelry. And a lot of WIP photos seem to stop at the point I am currently at. I don’t think it’s a fiendishly difficult project - well, I don’t at the moment! - but I can see that the attractive part of the pattern can also be one of the problems. Mainly, there are several different patterns used throughout the shawl. This stops it getting boring but also means the security that comes from knitting a pattern repeat several times over til it becomes lodged in your brain isn’t there. And much of the lace is “proper” knitted lace - patterning on every row without the breather that comes from a nice calming purl row after you’ve done the yarnover row from hell. :-)

Cobweb Lace Stole

I have just finished the first pattern - three rows of bells which were great fun to knit and weren’t really taxing at all. Now I have the joy of a few rows of pure concentration to look forward to.

But I really want to get back on track with my Year Of Lace. I’m almost halfway through and have only knitted three shawls so far. I shall cheat and call Kai’s Lotus Lace Socks part of the deal, though, because they are lace, dammit!

Anyway, I have plenty of shawl patterns to choose from, so of course that means I’m going to go for something completely different. In fact, it’s a complete mystery. :-P I’ve signed up for the Goddess Knits Mystery Shawl knitalong. I have joined a couple of mystery shawl knitalongs before, but never got around to knitting the pattern. But I’m determined to knit this one because a) it’s my Year of Lace and I want to knit lace! and b) it’s a Pi Shawl. I did love knitting Pi and as it’s almost two years since I finished it, I think it’s about time I knit something other than a triangle. This time, though, it’s going to a far more appreciative home. :-D

The yarn I’ve chosen is Baruffa Cashwool/Lane Borgosesia/Loony Boony in Red (shade #60). I spent an hour last night turning this:

Loony Boony

into this:

Baruffa Cashwool Shade 60

and now all I have to do is buy some more lace needles…

ooh I was thinking of using that for it too and I have that same screaming red! Did it really take an hour? Mine’s still in the skein as I’ve been putting off winding it up :s

I was going to use my Denim loony boony for the Goddess knits shawl, but came across some CTH merino lace in stash that is already wound into a cake, so going with that, looking forward to seeing how the loony boony turns out.
