So much of my recent knitting has been the unmentionable sort. What with knitting for the first two issues of The Inside Loop and then for a couple of secret projects that must remain un-named, it’s been hard to write an interesting post on here when the knitting content is missing.

But all that is over for now, at least. Though my knitting still has to remain unseen by prying wizard eyes. That means you, Cairi! :-D

Peacock Feathers Shawl

This pile of scribble is about two thirds of the Fiddlesticks Peacock Feathers Shawl (Ravelry link). I’ve had the pattern for ages (it was a Christmas present from Mr B in 2006 (!) along with the Fiddlesticks Creatures of the Reef shawl pattern), but it needed the right yarn.

In the end I chose a cashmere/silk blend from Colourmart in “Kingfisher”, which isn’t the right bird, but it *is* a lovely shade of teal, which I know the wizard will approve of. :-) If you spend your time stalking the Colourmart website (or sign up to their mailing list which is easier, but less fun) you can snap up such lovely yarns at bargainous prices. I’m stalking now with another project in mind that I don’t have the right colour yarn for. It doesn’t count a stash if I need it, after all… ;-)

The yarn has a slight sheen to it which I think will notice more when the shawl is blocked and looking lovely. Right now it’s too big for the needles, and I’m on the last dozen or so pattern rows before the edging and it’s getting to the “will this ever end?!” stage. But blocking will make me forget all the agonies, much in the way that having a tiny baby makes you forget the fact you’ve just felt like a football was coming out of your ladybits, and I’ll no doubt cast on for another shawl almost immediately. :-P
