When I got the latest newsletter from Woolly Wormhead last week, I was on Ravelry and downloading her newest pattern within seconds. Kernmantle is a gorgeous slouchy moss stitch hat with a simple cable running up one side. I mentally went through my stash and remembered some Sirdar Supersoft Aran that I had bought for a Rose sweater last year (sorry Rose!) in a gorgeous shade of purple and without any new sock yarn to tempt me at the time, I cast on.
Strictly speaking, I don’t need a hat. I have a couple of winter hats already, after all. But as this coming weekend Mr B and I will be braving the wind and rain in Brighton, I decided that I really needed a new, extra warm hat. And moss stitch is one of the warmest knitting stitches, I’m sure it’s scientifically proven. I’ve just an inch to go before decreasing the top, so will hopefully be wearing it as I enjoy a day by the seaside.
